The UMBC teacher education programs will provide you the way to become a certified, highly qualified teacher in Maryland, and more than 30 other states. We have programs in secondary (7-12th grades). Our programs are small with much individual attention.

The mission of the department is to develop teachers who are caring, thoughtful, knowledgeable, skilled, and responsive to children, their families, and communities. If these qualities are ones you possess in some degree and wish to develop further, becoming a leader in schools and an advocate for democracy and social justice

Program Completion Requirements: 
a) Complete academic major requirements. (Undergrads)
b) Complete all required education classes, including internships, CPPAs
c) Have an overall GPA of 3.0
d) No C grade in EDUC courses
e) Overall score of 3 or better on Summative CPPA both by mentor teacher
f) A 3 or better overall score on the Portfolio
g) Passing university wide graduation review
h) Pass Praxis I & II (or alternative test for Praxis I) – The required Praxis II and portfolio.
and supervisor tests are the MSDE requirements for licensure. Whatever the current MSDE test requirements are for licensure the same apply to certification by UMBC.
