Assignments generally include but are not limited to
- Intern Reflections
You will submit four reflections over the course of the semester. Although reflections are personal and no one needs to reveal all that they have written, interns should be prepared to discuss the evening’s reflection topics. Written reflections should be a minimum of two full pages.
- Art-ography
For this assignment, you will describe, present, and reflect on your life as a student of the arts, as an artist, and as a potential art teacher by reflecting on how your personal experiences have influenced your ideas about teaching art.
This reflection will be a visual narrative, presented in the form of a tangible work or art. You may use any combination of text and graphic that is comprehensive, clearly presented, and visually interesting. Your artwork could be 2D, 3D, or digital.
- Focus Lessons**
The purpose of the Focus Lesson assignment is to provide additional structure and teaching opportunities to the Phase 1 experience. Focus Lesson topics were selected based upon feedback from mentor teachers, interns and supervisors of previously identified areas of concerns. Focus lessons may or may not also be used as observed lessons by supervisors. A critical part of this assignment is for the intern and mentor to discuss the focus lesson, especially as it relates to the focus topic. Interns will report on the lesson and (most importantly) the feedback received from the mentor during the appropriate methods class meeting.
- Content Expertise**
You will complete a three page paper describing and documenting your personal and professional expertise in your specific arts content area. This assignment will contribute to your EDUC 489/689 grade in Phase I and will be included in your TeachingFolio, submitted at the end of Phase II. All components of the TeachingFolio must score a 3 or 4 so you may need to revise before submitting in the Spring.
- Demonstration Lesson
Using the template provided, you will plan a full lesson, suitable for a 60-90 minute elementary, middle, or high school art class. However, you will demonstrate only the introduction, instruction, and demonstration portions of the lesson in class. Members of the class will complete provide feedback on their classmates’ lessons. The full lesson plan will be submitted.
